Studio Time - Spending time with the Artwork

Making the work in the studio meant a lot of testing and time spent adding layers to my work. I re-lit a spark to do sketch drawings using charcoal, graphite and markers and realised how much I miss doing drawings like that, it gave me a break from doing and looking at the same paintings and saved my sanity during the making of the artwork.

Being able to spend time with my artwork is now very important, the more I spend working and taking time with them the more I feel connected to the work and the project. By exploring these topics and contexts I can express my own identity and experiences within the strokes and details I'm adding like a meditative therapy while shedding light on important issues.

Within my work, I like to work with texture and when texture doesn’t work with the material or idea, I've got I like to give the appearance or texture within the depth of the piece. The canvas pieces have spray-painted backgrounds with layers of colours and stencils which gives the textured, layered look while still being flat to paint over the top of.
