Target Audience

Important Notice -

This category of blog posts is about a module/project for my Fine Art Degree. This particular module contains an element to plan every aspect and make the work to be put in a hypothetical exhibit. This means the exhibit isn't planned for real, it's all pretend for my grade. This is so we get real-life experience and learn the elements and factors of putting on an exhibit. This means everything is thought about, the context, budgets, audience, why etc but no Exhibit is happening. This blog post talks about the Baltic which I have decided to be the place where my hypothetical exhibit would "happen". I'm not affiliated with the Baltic; this is university work.

I think my Business Studies GCSE made this type of project with a business pitch planning element come to some what ease especially for the target audience section of it.

Using Instagram and TikTok Analytics data for who the followers of my art account are helped me base an audience of it and use the visitors the Baltic is targeted to as well.

Target Audience from data:

- Age: 18 – 34

- Majority Women/Female Identity

The LGBT community and allies including advocates are more likely to be interested in my art and exhibit and have the show marketing catch their eye by using pride colours. They are the group most likely to recognise this, which is what I want as it is an exhibit for them.

Secondary groups would be art enthusiasts (regulars at the Baltic), educators and students, families and youth. This will be a good show for families and youth because it allows starting the conversation and learning about the LGBT community and identities. To learn some people are born with a certain identity which they won’t most likely figure out till they are older. It could help those who are questioning and nervous or unsure about what being LGBT could mean can get an insight into the beauty but be educated on the new dangers it could present but not let it influence their decision to find out who they are.

Young kids are smart and I believe families unless they have someone close to them who is LGBT don’t have exposure to it, I didn’t and my family does have a few LGBT people not including myself. This leads to youth who could or are questioning to feel like they have to hide, be ashamed, and research by themselves, so I think my show gives families a chance to have that education or show youth they aren’t alone and open the talk of LGBT up. It could even be a chance for people to bring others to see how they react to something LGBT before coming out to the person. Hence why I chose the Baltic, It’s a family/friendly exposure-based gallery. It gets in my opinion all groups of people from low to high class. It’s especially open to those who might be struggling with their pay what you can café, making it a great space for a family or group who can’t afford an expensive day out. The gift shop has all ends of prices for buying something while there but also doesn’t force you to have to walk through it so it can be avoided for those who can’t spend any money on stuff like that.

Targeting a diverse audience for the art exhibit about queer theory and queer relationships while empathising with its potential as a family-friendly educational experience can help promote inclusivity, understanding and acceptance of LGBT identities and experiences in society.

Educators and student studying topics relating to gender and LGBT studies may see the exhibit as an educational opportunity to depending their understanding of queer theory and representation in art.

Families seeking culturally enriching experiences and opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations about diversity and acceptance may be intrigued by the exhibit's family-friendly approach.

Youth and teens especially those who might be questioning their own identities or seeking to learn more about LGBT issues can benefit from the educational aspect of the exhibit.
